Do I Ask for More?
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
Have you ever thought to yourself, “I need to ask God for more joy, peace and love, in my life?” Have you secretly envied people who are cheerful no matter what and who appear to have everything going for them? Are you laughing on the outside, but crying on the inside–––hurting and alone? Are you waiting to enjoy life when your circumstances become perfect? Be careful, there is danger lurking in the midst and your heart can be poisoned in the very presences of God’s beauty and holiness. With the Bible before your eyes, you can still commit sin and distort the Words of inspired Scripture.
Jesus said in John 15:11, These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. Jesus set the model of perfect joy by His obedience to the Father and we as believers, will experience true joy when we are obedient to Christ. Hebrews 12:2 ~ Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Obedience is the basis of our joy. Acts 2:28 ~ Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. Know and obey the ways of God and you will be filled with joy.
John 14:27 ~ Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 16:33 ~ These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. This peace is unknown to the unsaved world, but secures serenity to the Christian in the difficult times of life. God’s peace is already given to us and can dissolve one’s greatest fears. Peace can rule in the hearts of those who claim Christ as their Savior and fortify them against the temptations of life. Jesus left His peace that we may also overcome a world filled with fears, trials and overwhelming circumstances.
Romans 5:5 ~ And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad (poured out) in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. God’s love for us as believers, has been poured out in our hearts to the point of overflowing. God has planted in our hearts the knowledge that we belong to Him and that His love is so immense, we can never be separated from so great a love. Romans 8:39 ~ Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Thought: No need for us to ask for more joy, love or peace, God has already given us all these things. 2 Peter 1:3 ~ According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
What Scripture encourages us to ask for is “wisdom,” James 1:5 ~ If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally (generously), and upbraideth not (without reproach); and it shall be given him. Only such divine wisdom enables believers to be joyous, submissive in trials (peace), and experience the great love of God so cherished in a Christian’s life. God has wisdom in abundance, ask in faith, and He will provide the wisdom needed for every situation. If you are in doubt, you will be like the restless sea, moving back and forth, never able to settle. Ask God to give you wisdom for life’s journey, and He will guide you through every circumstance.
